Museum Monday: The Hunt for Red October

I was in Oregon for a business trip. At the end of the conference the final dinner party was held at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Which is home to the USS Blueblack, a submarine that was used for the outside shots in the move The Hunt for Red October as well as various tv shows.  What is even more awesome is that you can actually go inside this submarine! USS Blueblack SS-581 One good thing about being on the sub with a lot of co-workers and clients is that each person was a camera

Amazing Work Poem

Each month, my company celebrates employee's birthdays and a wonderful employee Nelson will always make it a big event. A few months ago he started putting people's names and dates into poems. This month he put them into Oscar Nominated songs. Here is mine for my birthday on 2/17 and my 1 year anniversary on 2/10! Its funnier as Nelson knows I collect legos, and I was laughing so much when he sang this at our company meeting! Everything is Awesome – Lego Movie Lili – birthday 2/17 and 2/10 1 year anniversary Lili = Living Lego Movie Everything is

2014 The Year of Changes – Part 3: Travel

By |December 31st, 2014|Categories: Travel, Year in Review|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

This is Part 3 of my 2014 Year in Review. Travel With most of my time and energy for the year being tied up in job hunting, job getting, job starting, putting things into storage, moving, house hunting, and moving again -  I didn’t travel much this year and ended up not going on my trip to St. John, USVI. USVI got the axe mainly because I wanted to save money for my new home, and because the trip had originally been scheduled for my first week at Wayin. So instead I focused on experiencing more of downtown Denver. I

2014 The Year of Changes – Part 2: Home

By |December 31st, 2014|Categories: Year in Review|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

This is Part 2 of my 2014 year in review. Home With my change in jobs, I ended up commuting from North Boulder to downtown Denver which was a much longer commute than I was use to. But to be fair, I lived 7-10 minutes away from LifePics and so for years was spoiled with being able to go home for lunch, play with my dog, take a nap, and then head back into work.  So the hour plus commute was a big change. Right after I accepted the job at Wayin (but still at LifePics), out of the blue

2014 The Year of Changes – Part 1: Work

By |December 31st, 2014|Categories: Year in Review|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

When I wrote 2013’s Year in Review my only plans for 2014 included another trip to St. John, USVI and work more on the blog. As you can surmised from the blog - neither of those plans happened because I had no idea how different my life would be this year. So instead of doing my favorite travel memories of 2014 I’ll share the big changes that happened this year. And as I started writing, I realized that there were so many changes that I needed to break the 2014 Year in Review into multiple posts. So here is Part

Travel Missteps: Celebrity Interruption

Sometimes your travel plans are foiled by crowds. And sometimes your travel plans are foiled by…Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. On a nice July day in 2012 I was in Seattle for a business trip. After my coworker and I settled into our hotel we decided to do a little site-seeing while we got lunch before our first meeting. We headed down to Pike Place Market. After we had lunch, we noticed there were a lot of people…and more people streaming in. It became hard to shop and move about the market, and the sellers at first had no idea

2013 Year Highlights and 2014 Upcoming Travel Plans

Goodbye 2013! You were a good year. Here are some of the travel highlights: I went to Las Vegas twice for work, and had the opportunity to experience the craziness that is CES first hand. My favorite food experience was learning the history and how to make chocolate in Antigua, Guatemala. There is a 3 way tie for the “I never thought I’d…” Climb to the top of a Mayan Pyramid at Tikal, Guatemala Hike over a mile into the earth and free climb rock formations to see Mayan sacrifices at Actun Tunichil Muknal in Belize. Swim with sharks near

Travel Missteps: Disney Dash

By |October 14th, 2013|Categories: Travel, Travel Missteps|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

In February 2010 I had already had a busy travel month by getting delayed twice in St. John, and once I arrived home I only had a few days to pack and get ready for a work trip to Anaheim, CA. On my first day in Anaheim it turned out I had a free afternoon. It was suggested I could "swim at the hotel" or go to the "welcome drink reception."  But nagging me from my window was Disneyland. I worried if I headed to Disneyland that I'd get a call from my co-workers asking where I was, or some other emergency would

Travel Missteps: In the cockpit

In May 2010 I was tasked with my first solo business trip, which was to Lake Placid, NY.  As a seasoned traveler, planning a trip isn't hard. But I ran into a road block. To get to Lake Placid I could choose between 3 different airports to fly into and then rent a car and drive 3+ hours to Lake Placid or I could fly to Boston and then take an expensive regional flight into a nearby town, and then take a 30 minute taxi to Lake Placid. Both options were expensive.  As I was under 25 so it would
