I loved this painting in the Getty called Astronomer by Candlelight painted by Gerrit Dou in the late 1650's. The detail of the light and dark, all from a single source is very realistic and makes you peer into the scene to see better. Had a good time watching the US vs England Women's World Cup Game! And I also got trapped on a bus in a traffic jam for hours, and staged a jailbreak so I could hike off the highway and catch a ride. That was certainly a mini-adventure. I saw Patton Oswalt's comedy show, it wasn't quite what I expected, but he did handle a heckler with grace. This month was also tough because my dog Tessa got really sick and almost died. After a few stressful days she ended up getting better. View this post on Instagram Helping
This fresco of a Roman villa in tondo (circular) is one of a pair on display at the Getty Villa. I love the detail of the man fishing off the pier and the gardens before the pillared hall. This decorated a Pompeiian villa and was likely painted between 52-79 AD. It would have been a very small part of a larger wall decoration. June was a very busy month for me! I once again attended the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and this year saw Twelfth Night! Later in the month, I saw Fiddler on the Roof which was so moving! I also took my first day off in a while to have a fun Spa day! I've always wanted to see Eddie Izzard, and managed to get a ticket to see him. He was hilarious and one of the best comedians I've seen. So glad I was able to see him this tour. I had two really good museum days. The first was seeing
I got these beautiful silver earrings from Moses a top recommended jeweler in Luxor. You can find it across the street from the start of the Souk and a few shops down. If faces the wonderful Luxor Temple. These now make it into my regular rotation I love them so much! Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.
This Amargasaurus fossil is really fascinating. Known from only one skeleton that was mostly complete, it has a unique feature of two parallel rows of tall spines down its body. A long time ago people thought that these spines supported a sail, but now it is thought they were defensive structures that jutted out of the body. One part that was missing was most of the skull, so this is an assumption of what it looked like. Museum Monday is an every other week series about museum news, objects, and reviews.
HAPPY CAPTAIN PICARD DAY! Source
I had been shopping for clothes for my upcoming Egypt trip, and I had found the pretty swimsuit top at an outlet mall an hour outside of Miami. I was already a bit shaken up after a fiasco with my Uber, so as soon as I got back to my hotel, I eagerly threw on the swimsuit to head out to the beach. Except...I couldn't. The dang security badge was still on! And there wasn't any nearby stores that could take it off. I was pissed. Thankfully I had an old ugly swimsuit as a backup, but it was a good
I love hammocks. This was when I was in Costa Rica the first time back in 2012. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.
