Museum Monday: Astronomer by Candlelight

I loved this painting in the Getty called Astronomer by Candlelight painted by Gerrit Dou in the late 1650's. The detail of the light and dark, all from a single source is very realistic and makes you peer into the scene to see better. Museum Monday: Seaside Villa View

By |July 29th, 2019|Categories: Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

This fresco of a Roman villa in tondo (circular) is one of a pair on display at the Getty Villa. I love the detail of the man fishing off the pier and the gardens before the pillared hall. This decorated a Pompeiian villa and was likely painted between 52-79 AD. It would have been a very small part of a larger wall decoration. Museum Monday: Dior’s Palladium Dress

By |February 11th, 2019|Categories: Museums, Pop Culture, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |2 Comments

Denver Art Museum has an exhibit called Dior: From Paris to the World right now and it's really well done. Each space has its own style, lighting, and music. I spent hours going through the exhibit. One dress I was excited to see in person is this dress, the Palladium Dress from Dior's 1992 collection. It served as the main inspiration for Sailor Moon's Princess Serenity dress. In fact the creator Naoko Takeuchi based many of the outfits or drawings on fashion pieces. There is less than a month left in the exhibit. I highly recommend that you check it out. Museum Monday is

I attended the 12.1.18 Take Note Colorado The Fray concert at The Ogden Theater. I couldn't see Isaac for most of the show as I was in a weird place where his piano blocked my view, but he kindly gave me some photo opportunities towards the end of the show. Museum Monday: Zed the Mammoth

By |January 14th, 2019|Categories: Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Meet Zed. This ice-age Columbian mammoth is massive and was around 47-51 years old when he died (usual life expectancy was likely 60.) He was found at the Rancho La Brea tar pits in Los Angeles back in 2006 when the LA County Museum of Art was expanding and building a new parking garage. He likely died while wandering into a stream to drink water, unaware of the danger lurking below the surface. He ultimately became stuck and died of exhaustion or starvation. Luckily for us, scavengers didn't go after his bones, and he likely was quickly covered up. He is

Joe King of The Fray in Orange Light

By |January 4th, 2019|Categories: Photography|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

I attended the 12.1.18 Take Note Colorado The Fray concert at The Ogden Theater and managed to get a front row spot even though I was by myself and didn't go as early as I used to. I didn't get my normal spot, instead, I was closer to guitarist/singer Joe King.  I don't have a ton of photos of Joe, so I enjoyed playing with the light timing to get this shot of him singing. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.
