Museum Monday: Scale of the Dinosaurs

By |November 18th, 2019|Categories: Dinosaurs, Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

A few years ago I went to an exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science called Ultimate Dinosaurs and I was struck by the size of Dinosaurs. This massive vertebra from an Argentinosaurus is as big as a person. This leg of a Futalognkosaurus Dukei made it clear no museum would ever be able to display a full specimen. It isn't just herbivores that are massive, this skull from a Carcharodontosaurus is huge, larger than a T-Rex. It really puts it in perspective how terrifying these animals were. Museum Monday: Amargasaurus

By |June 17th, 2019|Categories: Dinosaurs, Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

This Amargasaurus fossil is really fascinating. Known from only one skeleton that was mostly complete, it has a unique feature of two parallel rows of tall spines down its body. A long time ago people thought that these spines supported a sail, but now it is thought they were defensive structures that jutted out of the body. One part that was missing was most of the skull, so this is an assumption of what it looked like. Museum Monday is an every other week series about museum news, objects, and reviews.

One of the largest carnivores, matching T-Rex for size is the Giganotosaurus. He was easily the largest fossil at this exhibit a few years ago at the Denver Museum. Museum Monday is an every other week series about museum news, objects, and reviews.

Museum Monday: Carnotaurus

By |December 11th, 2017|Categories: Dinosaurs, Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Watching the new Jurassic World trailer was mixed feelings. I love that there are more dinosaurs, but I hated the cut of the trailer. However, it was cool to see a Carnotaurus featured in the trailer as I had just seen a fossil version at the Denver Museum a few weeks before! Carnotaurus means "Meat Eating Bull" and it lived during the late Cretaceous period in the South America area. If you go: The Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibit runs from October 6th through January 15th at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd, Denver 80205. The exhibit is

Review: Ultimate Dinosaurs at DMNS

By |November 13th, 2017|Categories: Dinosaurs, Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has a wonderful temporary Dinosaur exhibit. Nearly all of the fossils displayed were new to me, so that was exciting. This exhibit features many recently discovered southern hemisphere dinosaurs. What really wowed me was walking into the main room and seeing all of the massively large fossils. Every other place I've seen dinosaurs at, there was just one or two, and never a full room of them. So I just stood fascinated by these huge animals for a bit before going up and looking at the details. I'll be posting follow up posts on

When I was little I collected fossils. One that I've always wanted was a trilobite, and when I was on a work trip to Vegas last year I found a going out of business gem and mineral shop and got a good deal on this little one. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

A Giant Ground Sloth at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC. They could reach up to 20 feet in length although this one is *only* 13 feet tall. Museum Monday is an every other week series about museum news, objects, and reviews.

Museum Monday: Archaeopteryx

By |August 22nd, 2016|Categories: Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , |0 Comments

I once saw a replica of the Berlin Archaeopteryx in a friends house. It was so beautiful. I later stumbled upon this replica at the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History. Archaeopteryx was one of the oldest fossils that showed the feather plumage that dinosaurs had. Museum Monday is an every other week series about museum news, objects, and reviews.

Las Vegas 2016 Cost Analysis

Wynn Carousel made of flowers. Opulence in Vegas is expected. The last time I was in Las Vegas for a vacation was in 2011. I tracked my budget back then and shared it in this post. I wanted to do the same with my most recent trip to Las Vegas as a comparison. This trip is a little different though. The bulk of my time was for a client event, and so I won't share those numbers here. So while I was in Vegas for 6 days I'll just focus on my free-time activities which accounts for a
