Souvenir Saturday: Fall in Boston

By |September 16th, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

I got this beautiful watercolor at Paul Rever Mall, part of the freedom trail and just outside of the Old North Church where Paul Rever hanged his two lanterns in warning. This park was full of crunchy fall leaves that I enjoyed jumping on, so I was happy to see this artist selling this painting to remind me of being in Boston in the fall. Souvenir Saturday: Trilobite

By |September 2nd, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , |0 Comments

When I was little I collected fossils. One that I've always wanted was a trilobite, and when I was on a work trip to Vegas last year I found a going out of business gem and mineral shop and got a good deal on this little one. Souvenir Saturday: Butterbeer Mugs

By |August 19th, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |1 Comment

At Universal Orlando, there are actually two types of Butterbeer mugs you can get. The original version (shown on the right) is found in the Hogsmeade section and is more of a stein shape. But if you head over to the Fountain of Fair Fortune at Diagon Alley, you'll find this mug with an elevated and curved shape. At either area you can get traditional Butterbeer, or my favorite the frozen kind! Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Souvenir Saturday: Resplendent Quetzal

By |August 5th, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , |0 Comments

While exploring the small island of Flores, Guatemala I spied this large wooden painting featuring Guatemala's state bird, the Resplendent Quetzal. As I had a smaller wooden painting from Costa Rica, I thought this would be a good addition to my collection! Souvenir Saturday: Cartouche

By |July 22nd, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Custom cartouche necklaces. The most common souvenir in Egypt. You'll find hotels, your Nile cruise ship, and numerous shops selling these to you. They also take 24-48 hours to make and return. The first step is deciding what it should say. For me my first name is too boring, so I decided to go with initials (yes...I have that many middle names...). After that you'll choose the cartouche (you'll see tons of styles), what metal the cartouche and the letters should be. (Its hard to tell but the cartouche is silver, while the letters are gold.) And you can also choose if

Souvenir Saturday: Nightmare Before Christmas

By |July 8th, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Happy Christmas in July! I wanted to share these two dolls I got in Orlando last year. There was a full size Sally, but she just looked weird and that bothered me. So I went with the smaller cartoon-like version of her instead. But the smaller cartoon-sized of Jack looked funny, so went with his more true skinny version. Both were found in the Christmas shop in Walt Disney World. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Souvenir Saturday: Sandy Lighthouse

By |June 10th, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

I have a little collection of Sand Castles, and this one is actually a lighthouse! I got it in Coronado right across from the Del hotel. I got it specifically because it wasn't a castle. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Souvenir Saturday: Olivanders Wands

By |May 27th, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Every Harry Potter fan dreams of getting their first Ollivanders wand. I picked the above Birch wand for its natural look and good grip. I also picked up the Ginny Weasley character wand. It's a nice sleek wand with a grip that is both simple and ornate at the same time. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Souvenir Saturday: Camels vs Sand

By |May 13th, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

I really wanted to get my friend's kids gifts from Egypt. I had spied some small stuffed camels in Cairo, and figured that would be good. But after traveling for almost 2 weeks, I still hadn't found the right ones yet. Some were too big, some were to scary (really, dancing and singing stuffed camels are weird), some were made...of real camel? I was hoping for something small, something that wouldn't be made of questionable materials, and something cheap. While in the Luxor souk I wandered into a shop that had these small camel keychains. The young seller made small
