The iconic Pumpkin on top of the grain tower. I love Halloween and so October is a busy month for me. I often get Meetup.com groups to go to local Halloween activities, and one of my favorites is Zombie Paintball at Anderson Farms. Cinderella's Pumpkin? During the day, Anderson Farms is family fun during their Fall Festival. You can join a hayride to the Pumpkin Patch to pickup the perfect pumpkin. You can wander through the 30 acre corn maze. For children there are a variety of small rides like the mine cars or barrel train.

A favorite annual fall tradition for me is to go to the Boulder Farmer's Market and pick out a ghost pumpkin. Sure there are tons of local farms where you can pick out a regular pumpkin but I like the white ghost pumpkins as they are more unique for Halloween. I also love to walk through the market and pick out fresh fruits and veggies for the week. Nothing beats local apples (or peaches in the summer!)  And many of the stalls offer free samples. The Boulder Market is located near 13th and Canyon and runs Saturdays from 8AM to

Souvenir Saturday: La Befana

By |January 10th, 2015|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

On Monday we discussed the story behind La Befana, the Italian gift giver around the Epiphany. I wanted to share with you the little La Befana that I got in a roadside shop on the way from Rome to Venice. The witch has wide eyes, warts, and a fur hood. She carries some straw on one side, a broom on the other, and a bag that held candies on her back. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Travel Missteps: La Befana

Walking through Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy I hear the unmistakable cackling laugh of a witch! I turned towards a nearby stall and spy hundreds of flying witches hanging from the roof. Big ones, small ones. Some like an old woman, while others looked like a creepy old hag warts and all! Some even were animatronic whose eyes glowed red (and made the cackling laughter that caught my ear.) But surely this must be a mistake? For its not Halloween time, but after so soon after Christmas!  I was confused but had no one to ask about this strange sight,

2014 The Year of Changes – Part 3: Travel

By |December 31st, 2014|Categories: Travel, Year in Review|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

This is Part 3 of my 2014 Year in Review. Travel With most of my time and energy for the year being tied up in job hunting, job getting, job starting, putting things into storage, moving, house hunting, and moving again -  I didn’t travel much this year and ended up not going on my trip to St. John, USVI. USVI got the axe mainly because I wanted to save money for my new home, and because the trip had originally been scheduled for my first week at Wayin. So instead I focused on experiencing more of downtown Denver. I
