Souvenir Saturday: Murano Glass

By |April 27th, 2019|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

The small Venetian island of Murano is known for its fine glasswork. On a rainy New Year's Day I picked up these small quarter sized pieces of Murano glass that were created into necklaces as they were the cheapest "Murano Glass" I could afford. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Foggy Venice

One New Year's Day years ago I took a snowy, foggy, gondola ride in Venice, Italy. It was an otherworldly experience to be out on the water. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.

It was a rainy day in Venice and the Grand Canal was quiet due to the New Year's holiday. There was so much rain, Venice started to flood that day. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.

Travel Missteps: Winter Fashion Failure

By |October 9th, 2017|Categories: Travel, Travel Missteps|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Today is the first snow in Colorado. I prefer to be warm over fashionable in winter. That means lots of layers and completely bundled up. The above photo was my look for Germany in 2011. But the further back I go I see more examples. For example, I sported this stunning blue look in Venice 2005. To be fair it was running and snowing on NYE, and so it was especially cold. However, my mother is always fabulously dressed, so I wonder where I get this... Oh yeah from Dad! He looked even more intimidating at night with his hood on. Also

Museum Monday: Glory of Venice at Denver Art Museum

By |February 20th, 2017|Categories: Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

My memories of the Denver Art Museum growing up were going on the chaotic free days.  Trying to peer over the rabble of families or fight to one of the children activities areas but failing due to the mass of people. As I got older, I tended to only go to that museum for big events, things like the Tutankhamen exhibit in 2010, Van Gogh in 2013, Cartier in 2015, or Star Wars in 2016. But I decided for Star Wars I'd become a member and try to go more often. It is down the street (sort of) from my office,

Travel Missteps: Sinking Venice

By |December 19th, 2016|Categories: Travel, Travel Missteps|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Visiting Italy in the off season had its benefits. Venice wasn't crowded on that New Years Eve. There weren't annoying pidgins accosting anyone. And since it wasn't hot, the lagoon water didn't smell.  But, I did find it odd that these weird tables were stacked all around the city. I wondered if it was for some New Years tradition that I wasn't aware of. But in the off season you have to deal with poor weather. I certainly got my money's worth out of my new rain boots and jacket. Here you can see St. Mark's Square! Except...the rain and

Colourful Christmas Doors of Burano, Italy

By |December 15th, 2016|Categories: Attractions & Sights, Photography, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

I love taking photos of doors and windows. Here are some of my favorite from the little island of Burano, near Venice, Italy. I had the chance to wander around the deserted streets of Burano on New Years Day a few years ago and to peek into the windows and see the families celebrating together. I also enjoyed the chance to see the beautifully decorated doors amongst the multi-colored houses. Every other week Travel Thursday brings you travel tips and information on the amazing sights and activities the world has to offer.

Gondola Ride in Venice, Italy

By |April 7th, 2016|Categories: Activities, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |1 Comment

On a cold rainy (and a little snowy) New Years Day I found myself in a actual Venetian Gondola. I was being serenaded by a man with an accordion. And while it was rainy, it was also magical. We were the only boats out that morning, and due to the cold the typical "smelly water" was nowhere to be smelled. It was amazing gliding through the side canals, under bridges. The few other tourists we saw took our photos like they were the paparazzi. If you make it to Venice you must take a ride in a gondola, no matter the

Gondola Ride at The Venetian Las Vegas

By |July 16th, 2015|Categories: Activities, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Me and my friend Heather enjoying our Gondola Ride. Las Vegas gets a bad rap of being gaudy and fake. But that is actually part of its charm and you have to enjoy it for what it is. Take for instance the Gondola Ride at The Venetian hotel. You are serenaded while being ferried around the waters of The Venetian hotel. The start of the indoor route. The inside route is a facsimile for Venice's tight waterways, and you'll float below bridges, shops, and cafes while the fake sky looms overhead and tourists gawk and take
