Local Experience: Zombie Paintball at Anderson Farms

By |October 13th, 2015|Categories: Activities, Local, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

The iconic Pumpkin on top of the grain tower. I love Halloween and so October is a busy month for me. I often get Meetup.com groups to go to local Halloween activities, and one of my favorites is Zombie Paintball at Anderson Farms. Cinderella's Pumpkin? During the day, Anderson Farms is family fun during their Fall Festival. You can join a hayride to the Pumpkin Patch to pickup the perfect pumpkin. You can wander through the 30 acre corn maze. For children there are a variety of small rides like the mine cars or barrel train.

Travel Missteps: Clearing out Starbucks

By |October 12th, 2015|Categories: Travel, Travel Missteps|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

I had never been to a Starbucks prior to my trip to Japan. Crazy right!? The key reason was that I didn't drink coffee, as I'm highly sensitive to caffeine. I also was a bit intimidated by ordering, as I had no idea what to order (or in fact what I would be ordering.) That hesitation was thrown out the window when the other students in my exchange group insisted they get their morning coffee. It was much easier to ask questions when the entire group had no idea how to order what they wanted in Japanese. So I could

Making a Dream Trip to Egypt a Reality

By |October 8th, 2015|Categories: Travel, Travel Planning, Upcoming Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

I have always dreamt of Egypt ever since I was a little girl. I loved ancient history (and Indiana Jones) and wanted to see the temples and monuments in person. It was fascinated how they complex and old they were. And they were so beautiful from the photos! I would watch the history channel and just eat up anything related to ancient Egypt. Source But it was always this far off exotic place that I hadn't really thought of actually going to. Not until I heard a character in Anne of Green Gables shout this: "I want to travel.

Museum Monday: Poison in Detail

By |October 5th, 2015|Categories: Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

As I wrote before in my review, I loved The Power of Poison exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Here are some of the exhibits models and artifacts in more detail. A blow dart gun, and the pot to brew & dip the tips in poison. There is something so intriguing on massive ancient tomes. I really enjoyed the faux magnification of various plants and animals in the forest area. It was very eye catching. An actual "Mad" Hatter's mercury laced hat. So many Beautiful, but Toxic Butterflies! Snow White's area was beautifully decorated and felt like

Souvenir Saturday: Tasty Memory

By |October 3rd, 2015|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

During a Girl's Weekend in Las Vegas, I stopped into Sugar Factory and fell in love with their myriad of candy and caramel apple options. It took forever to decide on which one to get. It being a quick trip, I completely forgot to eat it until I got home. And it was delicious. Sadly, Sugar Factory closed their location in Las Vegas but they often have small kiosks at various locations and airports, so if you see be sure to check it out! Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Local Activites: Boulder Farmer’s Market & Dushanbe Tea House

By |September 29th, 2015|Categories: Attractions & Sights, Events, Local, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , |0 Comments

A favorite annual fall tradition for me is to go to the Boulder Farmer's Market and pick out a ghost pumpkin. Sure there are tons of local farms where you can pick out a regular pumpkin but I like the white ghost pumpkins as they are more unique for Halloween. I also love to walk through the market and pick out fresh fruits and veggies for the week. Nothing beats local apples (or peaches in the summer!)  And many of the stalls offer free samples. The Boulder Market is located near 13th and Canyon and runs Saturdays from 8AM to

Travel Missteps: Wrong Exit

By |September 28th, 2015|Categories: Travel, Travel Missteps|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

The Sistine Chapel - known for Michelangelo’s beautiful ceiling and the grand finale of most Vatican Museum tours. After craning my neck trying to take it all in, it was time to leave...except I went through the wrong exit. There are two ways to exit the Sistine Chapel. The main exit is to the left of the room as you enter. I’m told that this has a long walk back. The other exit is for licensed group tours only, and lets you out close to the entrance to St. Peter’s Basilica saving you a long hike back and skipping an

Coatimundi

By |September 24th, 2015|Categories: Attractions & Sights, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Source When traveling the jungles of Guatemala & Belize I was on the lookout for local wildlife. But at Tikal, I literally stumbled upon so many! Parrots, Macaws, grey foxes, and then I saw something I had no idea what it was, or how to identify it. I was told it was called a Coatimundi! If you see a group of them, its likely a band of females, as males are solitary. We saw many bands of them, and they were very curious, coming right up to us. They kind of remind me of more active raccoons, who are

Souvenir Saturday: Drink Like a Pirate Day

By |September 19th, 2015|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

"Fifteen men on the dead man's chest-- ...Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum! Drink and the devil had done for the rest-- ...Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!" Today is National "Talk Like a Pirate Day!" or for others "Drink Like a Pirate Day!" Traveling the USVI and BVI via boat is the best way to experience the islands.  While stopping in Tortola, BVI I picked up this large tumbler with a recipe for a Rum Runner. I certainly had a few that trip! Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.
