This is my travel diary of my trip to Egypt. It contains in detail my memories of what I did and saw.  Thursday October 22, 2015 Egypt: Day 1 - Leaving Home (Denver, CO) For a moment I enjoyed being alone and listen to the heavy rain on the window. It had been hard to sleep the night before with Tessa gone. (I had dropped my dog off the night before to my parents house and had also left them copies of my itinerary so they wouldn't be worried.) It had been already packed for almost a week, but my flight

Source “Mars is a barren wasteland and I am completely alone here. I already knew that, of course. But there’s a difference between knowing it and really experiencing it.” -Mark Watney in The Martian by Andy Weir Egyptian Desert as seen from a Nile cruise. I remember the days before I had my Kindle. Stacks of books taking up space in my bags. I could easily go through 5-7 books per trip. And god help me if I had only brought a few in a series...and it finished on a cliffhanger! I remember many frustrating trips

Souvenir Saturday: Mugs from Munich’s Medieval Christmas Market

By |December 12th, 2015|Categories: Drinks, Geek, Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

There are hundreds of Christmas Markets in Germany during the Christmas season. A of the unique one that I visited was in Munich, and it was a Medieval themed Christmas Market. Found in Wittelsbacherplatz, a short walk from Odeonsplatz it is called the "Adventsspektakel und Mittelaltermarkt" (Advent Celebration and Medieval Christmas Market). Since Christmas Markets in Munich date back to the Middle Ages, it is easy to get in the mood here, with the stalls decorated like a mini-renaissance festival. You'll see people in period dress and they play their roles well. You may also be treated to dancers or musicians for entertainment. The stalls

Museum Monday: The Hunt for Red October

I was in Oregon for a business trip. At the end of the conference the final dinner party was held at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Which is home to the USS Blueblack, a submarine that was used for the outside shots in the move The Hunt for Red October as well as various tv shows.  What is even more awesome is that you can actually go inside this submarine! USS Blueblack SS-581 One good thing about being on the sub with a lot of co-workers and clients is that each person was a camera

Museum Monday: Paleontology Lab at DMNS

By |November 16th, 2015|Categories: Dinosaurs, Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

When I was little I wanted to be an archeologist or paleontologist. While that didn't happen I can live vicariously through the volunteers and employees at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. At the end of Prehistoric Journey is the Paleontology lab, where you can see the progress that is being made on specimens recently brought in from the field. He kind of looks like John Hammond from Jurassic Park. If you are a member of the museum, they also do many special nights where you can actually go into the lab and see a lot more

For years I had thought myself Gryffindor but realized my mistake and found my home in the Claws. So I dutifully got myself my House gear when I went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Here I am dressed in my Ravenclaw robes, sweater, and tie for Halloween 2012 I'm your typical Ravenclaw student, I love learning so much I have a Time Turner! Happy Halloween!

By |October 31st, 2015|Categories: Currently Traveling, Geek, Pop Culture, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Happy Halloween! When I was little, I wanted to be an Archeologist. This probably stemmed from watching Indiana Jones movies over and over again. So last year I created my own Raider's version of Indiana Jones complete with the Headpiece to the Staff of Ra. I thought it was a pretty awesome costume. But we had a work Halloween party where their kids were invited: Kid 1: Are you a cowgirl? Me: No I'm Indiana Jones. Both Kids *Blank Stare* Kid 2: What is India Jones? Me: ....a Archeologist. Both Kids *Blank Stare* Me: ... I dig up

Back To the Future Day!

By |October 21st, 2015|Categories: Geek, Pop Culture|Tags: , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Today's the day! Its Back to the Future Day! On this date, Marty McFly and Doc Brown came to the future to change it, and in the process fucked things up. How do we know? Because we were set back in our technological timeline! We were supposed to have flying cars, hover-boards, Mr. Fusion...and much much more. Then again, maybe Marty & Doc saved us from the fate of horrible fashion faux pas. Ah who am I kidding. That looks pretty bad ass. In Sailor Moon, one of the main characters Rei Hino (Sailor Mars), is a Shrine Maiden, and in some of the episodes she sells amulets. I remember watching this episode when I was young and I was very excited to go to Japan and purchase one of these charms! The Hikawa Shrine in Sailor Moon Called Omamori, these talismans are sold at Shinto and Buddhist shrines and temples and provide different protection or luck. They contain a prayer written on paper or wood and are contained within a cloth bag. The shrine or temple sell these in return
