© 2015 The Field Museum photo by John Weinstein This mummy is known as the Gilded Lady, and is part of the Field Museum's collection. However, it hasn't been on display since the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, until now! She is on display as part of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science's new exhibit Mummies: New Secrets from the Tombs. You can see her headdress which isn't made from the linen of the rest of her mummy but instead glued layers of papyrus (this type of design is called cartonage) to mimic her hair. Her gilded face mask has made her famous and might be

Souvenir Saturday: Toucan Sam

By |January 21st, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

This simple clay Toucan is sadly the only Toucan I saw in Costa Rica. In fact to this day I've never seen one in person. For some reason their huge beaks fascinate me, and I really had hoped to see one in the wild. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

The Temple of Hathor at Dendera is one of the best preserved temples in Egypt. Even so, early christians who sheltered here defaced many parts of this Roman-Hellenistic temple.  Here you can see the face of Hathor has been partially defaced at the top of these columns in the first hypostyle hall. But even so the blue paint shines through. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.

Travel Missteps: She Loves Chicken

By |January 16th, 2017|Categories: Travel, Travel Missteps|Tags: , , , , , , |0 Comments

Source One worry I had when traveling to Japan is that I wouldn't like the food. You see, I hate fish. And I'm allergic to seaweed. Which makes most sushi and common food items a no go for me. And then there was an issue of a mad cow scare making beef not an option either. My unique "diet" got a little lost in translation with my host family. So when I was introduced to people by them, it was "Kore wa Lili desu. Toriniku daisuki desu." Meaning "This is Lili, she loves chicken." I remember my host mother

Museum Monday: Secrets from the Tombs at DMNS

By |January 9th, 2017|Categories: Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

A year ago to the day that I rode a camel in front of the Great Pyramids, I found myself once again face to face with Ancient Egyptians. This time it was in the familiar confines of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science at their new exhibit Mummies: New Secrets from the Tombs. I was attending a special Member's Only dinner, and I was very excited as they were serving Koshari, my favorite Egyptian dish! After a delicious dinner, I headed up to the new exhibit. Because DMNS is also exhibiting their Extreme Mammals exhibit in the same upstairs area, Mummies

Trevi Fountain at Night

By |January 6th, 2017|Categories: Attractions & Sights, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

11 years ago today, on the Epiphany, I was standing in front of the Trevi Fountain on my last day in Italy. They say the first coin you throw in the fountain grants the wish that you will return to Rome. I'm still waiting on keeping that promise. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.
