A river god reclines by a water basin at the Vatican's Museo Pio-Clementino. It is believed to have been made in the time of Emperor Hadrian but based on an older Greek work. Museum Monday is an every other week series about museum news, objects, and reviews.
I got these beautiful silver earrings from Moses a top recommended jeweler in Luxor. You can find it across the street from the start of the Souk and a few shops down. If faces the wonderful Luxor Temple. These now make it into my regular rotation I love them so much! Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.
The small Venetian island of Murano is known for its fine glasswork. On a rainy New Year's Day I picked up these small quarter sized pieces of Murano glass that were created into necklaces as they were the cheapest "Murano Glass" I could afford. One New Year's Day years ago I took a snowy, foggy, gondola ride in Venice, Italy. It was an otherworldly experience to be out on the water. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.
It was a rainy day in Venice and the Grand Canal was quiet due to the New Year's holiday. There was so much rain, Venice started to flood that day. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.
Today is the first snow in Colorado. I prefer to be warm over fashionable in winter. That means lots of layers and completely bundled up. The above photo was my look for Germany in 2011. But the further back I go I see more examples. For example, I sported this stunning blue look in Venice 2005. To be fair it was running and snowing on NYE, and so it was especially cold. However, my mother is always fabulously dressed, so I wonder where I get this... Oh yeah from Dad! He looked even more intimidating at night with his hood on. Also
It was a lovely sunny day at Philae Temple in Egypt. This photo reminds me of another I took in Italy of a Roman Arch of Constantine. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.
I took many photos in Egypt. Each tomb and temple fascinated me. Especially the hieroglyphs that adorn the walls. Here are some of my favorites from Philae Temple near Aswan, Egypt. A cartouche. A depiction of Isis, who the temple is dedicated to. A pharaoh giving offerings to Osiris. Horus surrounded by lotus flowers. Isis giving the sign of life to the pharaoh. Many of the faces were defaced by early christians, it was pleasing to see these three still with such good detail. A lion and flowers on one of the smaller side temples.
I really wanted to get my friend's kids gifts from Egypt. I had spied some small stuffed camels in Cairo, and figured that would be good. But after traveling for almost 2 weeks, I still hadn't found the right ones yet. Some were too big, some were to scary (really, dancing and singing stuffed camels are weird), some were made...of real camel? I was hoping for something small, something that wouldn't be made of questionable materials, and something cheap. While in the Luxor souk I wandered into a shop that had these small camel keychains. The young seller made small
