Souvenir Saturday: Las Vegas Snow Globe

By |April 16th, 2016|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , |1 Comment

I like this snow globe from Las Vegas, as it has all the major "sights" from Luxor, NY NY, Paris, and more. The base brings back the Vegas motif with cards, chips, dice, and coins. Read about the History of Snow Globes or view a Buying Guide to find the perfect Snow Globe on your next vacation. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Niederwalddenkmal in the Fog

Niederwalddenkmal is a monument in the Rhine Valley dedicated to the unification of Germany. It boasts of a beautiful walking park and great views of the valley. On the day I went, it was a quiet foggy landscape where you couldn't see the monument at all! So here is the gazebo in the park, the only thing beyond a few trees that i could see. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.

Souvenir Saturday: German Steiff Triceratops

By |April 2nd, 2016|Categories: Dinosaurs, Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

One souvenir on my checklist from Germany was a real Teddy Bear made by Steiff, one of the first makers of the modern Teddy Bear. I have a few old and antique Teddy Bears, and figured one directly from Germany would be a great addition to the collection. But while in Munich I stopped into a toy store...on Christmas Eve of all days! It was absolute chaos. I dodged and dived between rambunctious children. Just as I was about to give up and turn around I saw the Steiff section and decided to have a look. But I had walked

Today should be the next post in the Egypt Travelogue series, featuring the Great Pyramids of Giza. But...I ran out of time to write it because I'm planning my next trip to Las Vegas. So instead of the Great Pyramids, here is the pyramid of Vegas at the Luxor! So with your pyramid fix for the day complete, lets talk about Las Vegas. I'll go going for work at a trade show at The Venetian but I've decided to stay a couple of days afterwards on my own. I've been to Vegas many times for various trade shows and I've

Museum Monday: Woman of Fayum

By |February 22nd, 2016|Categories: Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

While in Egypt I didn't make it to Fayum to see their pyramids and mummies, however I did see this beautiful Fayum Portrait in Frankfurt, Germany at the Städtische Galerie Liebieghaus. These portraits were often painted during life on wood, and were placed over the mummy upon death. Read more about Fayum Portraits here. Museum Monday is an every other week series about museum news, objects, and reviews.

Frost on the Wall

By |February 19th, 2016|Categories: Photography, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Traveling in winter can be tough. The gardens of the summer Linderhof Palace were especially frozen in December. This hedge wall was covered in frost, and looked glistened in the light. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.

Walking the old Medieval Walls of Rothenburg right after Christmas was cold, but beautiful. Looking down I saw this beautiful tree with winter berries. Every Friday Lili shares her favorite photography & the stories behind the photos.

Museum Monday: Discobolus

By |December 28th, 2015|Categories: History, Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

This statue is from the Städtische Galerie Liebieghaus collection in Frankfurt, Germany. This is only the top half of the statue, the other is nude and preparing to throw the discus.  I loved the bright red background of this part of the museum. A marble discobolus Museum Monday is an every other week series about museum news, objects, and reviews.

Souvenir Saturday: Lebkuchen Ornament

By |December 26th, 2015|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

A gingerbread stall at a Frankfurt Christmas Market Lebkuchen is the German version of gingerbread. It is a delicious spiced bread/cookie. Around the many German Christmas Markets you'll find decorated versions in various shapes, but the most common is in the shape of a heart.  This ornament appears to actually be a sugar cookie, decorated in the form of a Lebkuchen heart and then lacquered. My sister got it for me as a Christmas gift from the Munich Christmas Market. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Travel Missteps: It was Santa!

By |December 21st, 2015|Categories: Travel, Travel Missteps|Tags: , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Occasionally you witness someone else’s Travel Missteps and Mistakes. On a flight from Denver to Germany right before Christmas I saw this big drunk German guy in a cowboy hat walk onto the plane late for boarding. He had a bunch of loose items, mostly what looked like various Walmart/Target toys for children. Since he was late most of the overhead space was taken, so he would just jam a toy here and there as he found space while walking towards the back of the plane. Apparently he had also put some toys in the space for the fire extinguisher
