Today should be the next post in the Egypt Travelogue series, featuring the Great Pyramids of Giza. But…I ran out of time to write it because I’m planning my next trip to Las Vegas. So instead of the Great Pyramids, here is the pyramid of Vegas at the Luxor!

So with your pyramid fix for the day complete, lets talk about Las Vegas. I’ll go going for work at a trade show at The Venetian but I’ve decided to stay a couple of days afterwards on my own. I’ve been to Vegas many times for various trade shows and I’ve also been to Las Vegas twice for vacation. (Although once was when I was in 6th grade, so didn’t get the full “Vegas” experience.)  As this is a solo trip, I don’t want to do the typical gambling, drinking, clubbing scene and instead want to focus on different experiences.

My key major “to do” activity is to go to the Canyon Ranch Spa at The Venetian. I went years ago with my friend Heather for her bachelorette as my first real massage and spa experience. It was a bad idea, as Canyon Ranch Spa was so amazing nothing has topped it since then. So I’m really excited to go back.

I also want to make sure to see a show, as I’ve never seen one in the many times I’ve been to Vegas. I decided to see Le Rêve – The Dream at the Wynn. I chose this one as it seems very interesting. Its both a circus type performance, both in the air and in a water stage. The theater is “in the round” which seemed like a better idea than the other theaters in Vegas. And simply put so many people have raved about it. (It also didn’t hurt that the Wynn is close to my home base, and so wouldn’t be a far walk.)

Beyond that I don’t have anything else planned. I’m not much of a foodie, so I’ll just eat whatever I can that is closest. I’m usually not one for lounging by a pool, but that might be in store for me (with a good book to read). Here are the other things I’ve researched but haven’t put a plan into place for:

I’ve seen most of the free attractions in Vegas on my other trips, but I’ve never seen the Mirage Volcano go off, so here is hoping I’ll get the chance this time to cross that off my list.

I would love to see the Neon Museum, a boneyard of the glitzy signs of Las Vegas. While I’d love to see it at night, those tickets go quickly and I don’t think I have a free night available. So I’m debating on if I’d still like to see this during the day. If I do do it during the day, then I might be interested in the combo ticket with the nearby Mob Museum.

I’ve never made it as far as Mandalay Bay, and I’d love to see their shark reef aquarium. It would also be nice to spend more time at the Bellagio conservatory and botanical gardens.

I’d also love to catch Penn and Teller but not sure I have a free night to do so.

I really want to get out and away from Las Vegas. I’m looking into options for a horseback riding trip that includes a meal.

And after a lot of research on Grand Canyon trips from Las Vegas, I learned that the “real” Grand Canyon is the South Rim, which is quite a drive from Las Vegas (4-5 hours each way.) While the closer “West Rim” is on an Indian Reservation, and so have become very commercialized and fake. I looked into doing airplane/helicopter tours to reduce the time in a bus, but in the end decided that I should try to do a real Grand Canyon trip at some point instead of a less than 2 hour visit with an expensive air component to it.

So still a lot of planning to do! (And likely a movie marathon of Ocean’s 11.)
