Last month was a whirlwind of culture and travel, so this month I was pretty much just recovering. About the most interesting thing I did was go to a Rockies game with my co-workers. I was supposed to go to a “Mr. Holland’s Opus” style retirement party for my middle school band director (in fact I’d been practicing clarinet for 2 months) but I became really sick in May and was out of commission for weeks. :(

Watchlist
TV
On Netflix, I watched a little of TURN, Evil Genius, The Good Place (again), and West Wing (again and again). On Amazon, I started watching Catastrophe. And I got a Hulu subscription so I could binge watch the Handmaid’s Tale (bad bad idea. Don’t binge watch this.) I’ve started watching Hulu’s Harlots as well. And I’m doing a rewatch of Community, as I hadn’t seen the later seasons.
On real TV lot of shows ended this month. Once Upon a Time, Lucifer, and the Americans.
Once Upon a Time has always been a show you love and hate at the same time. They had to abruptly change direction when they realized they got canceled, so Sandy’s storyline was discarded as easily as his body was, and instead, the brought back an old baddie. The last two episodes should have been an entire season. I’ll miss Lana Parrilla’s costumes.
Lucifer struggled its last season. The main reason to watch was Tom Ellis was simply captivating. But man the last 3 minutes were amazing. I both wish and don’t wish it gets picked back up on a different network.
And the Americans…Jesus. This was such a great show. The last episode was beautiful and everything I could have ever wanted. I’ve watched it over and over again. If you like spy shows that has a rooted basis in family, this is the show to watch. Heartbreaking but worth it. This is definitely going to be a series on my eventual rewatch list.
Movies
Lots and lots of stand up comedy on Netflix: John Mulaney, Ali Wong, Tig Notaro, and more. I also watched Black Panther and Red Sparrow. I actually really liked Red Sparrow, but I was also on a Soviet Spy kick while waiting for the above mentioned The Americans finale.
I am also highly amused by this:
