So… I may have gone a little overboard this month.

I decided I wanted to do more this year. See more museum exhibits, go to more events, things like that. So I spent the better part of a morning like most people in Denver trying to get Hamilton tickets…and failing.

So instead I booked the following activities for this year:

  • Aladdin
  • Book of Mormon
  • Degas at the DAM
  • Dead Sea Scrolls at DMNS
  • Lewis Black
  • Steve Martin & Martin Short

Oh and I booked a trip to LA to see the King Tut exhibit (in addition to numerous other famous museums in LA for a jam-packed weekend in April).

I also almost bought flights and tickets for the NY Cursed Child run…before I realized it was to freaking expensive AND I prefer to pretend Cursed Child doesn’t exist as a real part of HP Fandom.

And then shockingly, I was able to snag a ticket to Hamilton anyway!

So yeah….thats a lot of cash on culture in one month, but I’ll have plenty of things to do in the next coming months!

Beyond that, this month I had my 32nd birthday! (OH GOD I’M OLD) and spent it with friends on a fun Game Night!

I also got caught in a freak localized snowstorm where my bus (and 4 others) got stranded for hours. We had to climb a hill and vault over the highway divider to get to another bus.

Other Blogs

I was pretty busy this month, so got really behind in reading blogs but these three caught my eye:

Books

A co-worker mentioned she was finishing up a book called Station Eleven. I also was in the middle of the book, I just hadn’t read it for a while. (I’m in the middle of MANY books, due to picking up a lot of Kindle books.) So after she mentioned it, I re-downloaded and started to read it again. It’s a different read. Its a book told about a post-apocalyptical world after a disease killed off most of the population. Certain chapters are in the present storyline, while others are set pre or during the sickness. Not all of it fits together until you get to the end.

The reason why I had initially stopped reading the book was because I was getting strange stress dreams. That plus at the time there was a lot of “Actually North Korea can bomb us, it wasn’t a fake bomb after all”  in the news. So one sleepless night I hopped on Amazon and bought a ton of survival and food supplies (Hundreds of dollars worth), went to bed and forgot about it until 2 days later a CRATE of supplies arrived on my doorstep.

But I had forgotten this when I started to finish Station Eleven. So I got back into the book and finished it in one sitting. And then the dreams started up again. It’s not even that scary of a book, but for some reason it just gets to me.

Audio Books

I still was working my way through Martin Short’s I Must Say. But I wasn’t prepared for when his wife died. The book is moving and I broke down crying, but not an ugly sob way, but in the “They had a beautiful life together” way. I highly recommend the book.

Since I bought tickets to the Steve Martin/Martin Short show later this year, I dived right into Steve Martin’s “Born Standing Up” audiobook. Steve’s tone isn’t as natural or inviting as Martin Short’s book was, but the stories are fascinating in how different they were from Short’s world. I’m still in the middle of this, but enjoying it a lot so far.

Watchlist

TV

So, I’m a NetFlix fanatic. Years ago I didn’t understand the hype. Now its almost the only thing I watch. So of course I binged watched their new sci-fi show Altered Carbon, and I really liked it. I loved AI Poe, he was a great character! Just know the show is very violent (I mean it would have to be if people can switch bodies at a whim, then “bio damage” isn’t that shocking to them.)

After that, for something more upbeat, a co-worker recommended The Good Place, MAN I LOVED IT. If you don’t know anything about it, GOOD. Just watch it with no info, it will be better!

I also bounced around between historical and political shows, like Victoria, the Tudors, and the West Wing. I kept having to google what was going on in the Tudors to figure out if history was really that insane (it was.)

And I found some UK Taskmaster episodes and enjoyed watching a few of those, definitely need to track them all down, that show is hilarious! Essentially Greg Davies is “The Taskmaster” and he gives British comedians strange tasks they have to complete.

Movies

I watched Fred Armisen: Standup For Drummers, this was actually really funny and really informative!

And I finally watched Ella Enchanted, god…I had issues with this movie. It frustrated me a lot on the issues of consent and free will. I’m really glad I didn’t see this as a child, its just so weird.

Health Plan

Sooo….this month was my birthday month, so I decided not to stick to a strict health plan. I still watched my portions but didn’t count calories. So I went up/down about 4 pounds but stayed pretty consistent with last month’s 17-pound weight loss. I’ll be better on this next month.

What’s Next

March will actually be really busy! A personal trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. A business trip to wintery Boston, MA. And I get to see Hamilton!
