One consistent mistake I make is safely packing away my keys (or hats/gloves when on a tropical trip in winter) deep in my bag. I always think, "I've got to keep this safe!" And every single time I take a shuttle or uber home, I end up having to rifle through my bags on my porch in the dark trying to find the keys now deeply buried in my overstuffed bags. I use to be a horrible packer, waiting until the last minute. This lead to many sleepless trips such as the time I finished packed at 4AM for my trip to Japan.
