Souvenir Saturday: Scarlet Macaw Model

By |September 3rd, 2016|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Sometimes you'll come across a souvenir which is so unusual you just have to have it. This is the case of the Scarlet Macaw. I had loaned a friend some money earlier, and to pay me back they were going to use their credit card so I could purchase some souvenirs. One of those was this wooden toy Macaw. It is small but beautifully colored and  its wings flap from the wires attached to it as if it was a puppet. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

The first night's hotel. Wonderfully big beds! My first night in Costa Rica was in a 5 star hotel because my original hotel was overbooked. Fluffy big beds, clean sheets, fresh flowers in the room, AC; that hotel was heaven. The breakfast was amazing and the hotel's decor natural but also stylishly modern. Weird Egyptian themed hotel room art in Costa Rica. My last night, was in the original hotel...was quite the opposite. For one, the room was strangely decorated in an Egyptian motif. The beds small and uncomfortable.  I also drew the short straw and got

Today is World Oceans Day. With so many news stories of rising ocean temperatures and bleached corals, now more than ever is it important to protect this important part of our ecosystem. So today I share some of my favorite snorkel photography and hope we can all help protect the oceans. Above is Waterlemon Caye, off of St. John USVI.  The large school of fish you can see are Sergeant Major, my favorite fish. Here you can see more Sergeant Majors near Isla Tortuga, Costa Rica. I like this fish as it reminds of me the coloring of Flounder from the

I'm afraid of heights. While sometimes I will test this fear, one thing I just cannot handle is very fast roller coasters, or ones that make you go upside down. But when visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter I decided I had to see the Triwizard Tournament Dragon Challenge theming for the Dueling Dragon coasters, even if I wasn't going to ride it. On my second day I had early admission so I entered the queue and slowly walked through it, waving others past me. First you'll see the banners for the 4 champions. As you walk you'll see the

England had some pretty disappointing train trips. I traveled there in the summer of 2002. I remember being a Senior in high school, and dashing through Kings Cross station late at night, to try to catch a glimpse of the barrier between platforms 9 and 10. Why? Because I wanted to act out and take a photo pretending to gain access to Platform 9 3/4! Imagine my surprise and disappointment to find that platform 9 and 10 are in separate areas! (Now they actually have a photo op elsewhere in the station, but it was dark times for early fans.) So,
