I think this will sum up my Hauntingly Favorite Month:

So I just got an email from a local cemetery asking if I wanted to meet up tomorrow “To Start Planning For the End”.

I responded with, “Unless you are a Haunted House/Ghost Tour having a laugh with an epic marketing pitch I’m not interested.”

They responded with “Nope, we aren’t haunted, but appreciate your humor. We’ll take you off the list.”

Man they aren’t even trying to sell their cemetery well. “Not Haunted” my ass

It is also Tessa’s favorite month, but that is because she likes to eat fall leaves:

Travel

I had a trip to DC with my parents! I was going for two dear friend’s wedding, and they heard me talk so much about my trip they decided to come too. Beyond DC we also went to Williamsburg & York, Virginia.

Highlights

  • This was my first trip using AirBnB and it was such a smart idea! I was able to cook gluten free food for myself (in fact only ate out twice the whole trip) and it was close to the Metro!
  • I did a flight simulator two time! Once at the National Air & Space Museum, and then with my dad at the Udvar-Hazy Center near the airport. Dad enjoyed going upside down too much!

  • I really enjoyed the new Fossil Hall at the National Natural History Museum, however I am still sad my favorite Triceratops is now positioned in a death pose under the T-Rex. I was lucky that the old cast was still on display upstairs for a bit so got to see two Triceratops!

  • I really enjoyed the mineral hall. It has been re-done since I had been and they had so many different specimens and different ways of organizing it. I could have spent days just in this section.

  • There was a moment at my friends’ wedding that I was thinking “I don’t know anyone…I should just go…” But I kicked that voice in my head and just went on the dance floor, and I then had such a great time with all of their friends! I’m so glad I pressed on and stayed!

  • After a road trip to Monticello, I convinced my parents to go Apple Picking with me, a fall bucket list item I’ve always wanted to do!

  • Continuing the fall theme we went to Colonial Williamsburg and went on a Ghost Tour and the next night I did a Witch Trial (we hung the witch boo). I had a lot of fun for both events! I was actually one of the wealthy land owners (sort of like a judge/jury) and so had the best seat for it!

  • The museum at York had an amazing 4D theater with fog, rumbling seats, lightning and more. Outside they had a Revolutionary farm and camp! My parents initially didn’t want to see this, so I’m so glad we went and did this.

Challenges

  • One museum I didn’t get to go to last time in DC was the Holocaust Museum, so I decided to make that my first stop. That was…a poor decision. It is an amazing museum on a very horrific topic, made more depressing given all of the hate going on in the world. I made it pretty much to the end and was crying and wanting to vomit during the last few rooms with the explicit videos of bodies and stories of survivors. It was powerful, but likely not the best way to start a trip. I ended up having to sit on a cloudy day on the National Mall trying to shake the sadness afterwards.
  • My second day we went to the Arlington Cemetary (man I picked depressing start-of-the-day activities). On the way back we tried to catch a hop on/off bus but were waiting in the wrong area so it took 3x as long. Then we were too tired to get on/off. We should have just got an uber.

  • I yet again didn’t make it to the National Gallery of Art, I just was too tired the one morning I could and slept in. Guess I’ll need to go to DC one more time at some point!

Recommended Reading

Podcasts

I had listened to the book Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered back in July. I finally go around to checking out the Author’s podcast: My Favorite Murder. The reason why is that around Halloween we had a MASSIVE snowstorm and blizzard. The power went out. I wanted to listen to something spooky on my phone so pulled up some random My Favorite Murder podcasts that were recommended on Reddit..and I was hooked. By the time the power came back on I couldn’t care, I was deep in listening to this weird Comedy-Murder podcast.

Watchlist

TV

I decided to not watch my traditional Halloween movies and instead finished True Blood on a whim since I had finished watching all of The Vampire Diaries/The Originals and was still on a Vampire kick. I also watched The Boys (man that was dark) and finished up Continuum since it was going off streaming soon. I then watched The I-Land which got good and ended too soon. Should have been much longer. And caught the second season of Disenchantment.

Movies

I watched The Laundromat, it was an interesting movie and loved the way they ended it.

What’s Next

November is going to be very busy! Two work trips, museums and Disneyland!
