A trip to Paris isn’t complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower. I remember taking an elevator up to the main section. Back then it had a little shop and post office. I bought postcards there, and took photos on old film cameras, and climbed a bit higher. The Eiffel Tower is also an amazing sight from the ground. I remember walking around the wide boulevards and taking a cruise down the river Seine while looking up at it.
One thing I didn’t do right away was buy a kitchy Eiffel Tower. They were sold everywhere but seemed a bit expensive. So I kept passing on this traditional souvenir.  It wasn’t until I spent hours walking the full length of the Champs de Elysee that I stumbled upon a lonesome street seller.
He was situated near these beautiful man-made ponds where children were sailing boats. He was nice and talked with us for a while, saying that he hasn’t had many customers all day. As I looked through his stall I saw small 3 inch metal Eiffel Towers, and then noticed the price was just 1.50 Euro! It was a steal! My family and I got so many little Eiffel Towers to give as gifts to family and friends, and we made the guys day buy purchasing other items.
So while this may seem like to others as a boring typical Eiffel Tower, it reminds me of the long walk and enjoyment we had on a fine winter day in Paris.
Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.
