I've written before on the handmade pots I made on my various trips to St. John, but wanted to share one other item I got from the Maho Bay Clay Works. This lovely clay necklace wasn't made by me, but I got as a lovely reminder of my time in St. John. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Hands on experiences are always the best, and I had a chance twice to visit the Maho Bay Clay Works in St John, USVI and make my own pottery. This was my first little bowl I made, and it actually turned out pretty well! It use to be a nice purple color, but an Irish flag once got caught in some water in the bowl and the color changed slightly. Breathtaking Crystal Maiden at Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave

One of the most breathtaking experiences I have ever had while traveling was when I visited Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM). The name means “Cave of the Crystal Sepulcher” but it could be more accurately described as the physical embodiment of Xibalba, the Mayan underworld. This is a cave system in Belize, where you can see actual Mayan sacrifices and offerings to the gods. It is believed the Mayans first found the cave around 300-600 AD, but didn’t move into the further reaches until 700-900 AD.
