Museum Monday: Scale of the Dinosaurs

By |November 18th, 2019|Categories: Dinosaurs, Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

A few years ago I went to an exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science called Ultimate Dinosaurs and I was struck by the size of Dinosaurs. This massive vertebra from an Argentinosaurus is as big as a person. This leg of a Futalognkosaurus Dukei made it clear no museum would ever be able to display a full specimen. It isn't just herbivores that are massive, this skull from a Carcharodontosaurus is huge, larger than a T-Rex. It really puts it in perspective how terrifying these animals were. Museum Monday is an every other week series about museum news, objects,

I think this will sum up my Hauntingly Favorite Month: So I just got an email from a local cemetery asking if I wanted to meet up tomorrow "To Start Planning For the End". I responded with, "Unless you are a Haunted House/Ghost Tour having a laugh with an epic marketing pitch I'm not interested." They responded with "Nope, we aren't haunted, but appreciate your humor. We'll take you off the list." Man they aren't even trying to sell their cemetery well. "Not Haunted" my ass It is also Tessa's favorite month, but that is because she likes to eat

I feel like this was a busy month and beyond the work trip I'll talk about below, the main highlight this month was attending the Reddit Modshow Denver edition. It was fun meeting some local legends and talk to Reddit employees about modding.   View this post on Instagram   Upvote for drunken mods. #reddit #modshow A post shared by Lili (@liliontheloose) on Sep 20, 2019 at 10:34pm PDT Travel This month I had a huge event in Chicago for work. I was going to meet my new team for the first time so was really stressed out. In the

Buying Guide for Egyptian Papyrus Art

By |September 28th, 2019|Categories: Buying Guide, Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |2 Comments

Papyrus is the ancient symbol of Lower Egypt and you'll see it everywhere in Egypt. Touts will wave bookmarks and small art at you on the streets. Sellers at historical sites will have them displayed prominently. And you'll pass dozens of "Papyrus Museums" aka showrooms of the stuff. But you have to be very careful, as you could end up with cheap banana leave replicas, or artwork simply printed off a printer. Real papyrus (as any of the "Museums" will show you) no longer grows wild on the banks of the Nile, and are made from Cyperus papyrus stems. These stems

Travel Luck: Puppies on a Plane

By |September 2nd, 2019|Categories: Travel, Travel Memories|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

One of my bucket list items was to sit next to a cute puppy on a flight. I've seen dogs on planes before, such as service dogs or older small dogs in carriers, but I was never near enough to pet the dog. So I was delighted to see this little pup standing in front of me on a Southwest flight a few years ago. She was flying from Denver to Orange County by her breeder, to meet her forever home. She was a Bernese Mountain Dog 8 week pup! She was very well behaved and was quiet throughout the
