Museum Monday: Carnotaurus

By |December 11th, 2017|Categories: Dinosaurs, Museums, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Watching the new Jurassic World trailer was mixed feelings. I love that there are more dinosaurs, but I hated the cut of the trailer. However, it was cool to see a Carnotaurus featured in the trailer as I had just seen a fossil version at the Denver Museum a few weeks before! Carnotaurus means "Meat Eating Bull" and it lived during the late Cretaceous period in the South America area. If you go: The Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibit runs from October 6th through January 15th at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd, Denver 80205. The exhibit is

This is one of my favorite ornaments from Germany. It's a Käthe Wohlfahrt frozen moon and stars ornament. I got it at a little stall at the Frankfurt Christmas Market. Souvenir Saturday is an every-other week series on the items that represent travel memories.

Travel Missteps: A Bump in the Night

By |December 4th, 2017|Categories: Travel, Travel Missteps|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

On my second trip to St John, USVI I once again stayed in the tree-house like canvas tent cabins of the Maho Bay Camps. It was relatively cheap, eco-conscious, and amazing views! However, the tents were getting a little worse for the ware. Small holes dotted the roof and screens. Doors wouldn't fully close. But, when you are in paradise, these complaints fade away. Iguanas lounged on the deck. Hermit crabs scurried underfoot (after being captured and released by a young child.) Gekkos in your tent became your friend as they would eat the bugs. Rain would lull you to

The Best Holiday Yule Logs on Youtube

By |November 30th, 2017|Categories: Pop Culture|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

I miss sitting around a roaring fireplace in the winter. So at the office I put a Yule Log on one of my monitors throughout the holiday season. In 2015, I only did Darth Vader, but last year I decided to switch it out to see if anyone noticed (they did). Here are ones I'm planning to rotate through this season: Darth Vader You may be thinking, WTF? But hear me out! A Vader Yule Log is festive and seasonally appropriate. With The Last Jedi coming out this December, the Vader Yule Log will help put you in the right

Souvenir Saturday: German Porcelain Candle House 2

By |November 25th, 2017|Categories: Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

As I've written before, you'll often find these porcelain houses at German Christmas Markets. You place a candle inside and the light flickers in the windows. Some even have a chimney where you can put oil to burn for fragrance or place a small incense cone to simulate a smoking chimney.   This one is made by Kastel Keramik Haus (or they are also known as Lichthauser) and I purchased it at my first Christmas Market in Frankfurt. It was the last night of their market, and so I got some of these little houses for 50% off. It is called "Stone House
