Christmas Dinner at the Three Broomsticks

By |December 20th, 2017|Categories: Food, Food & Drink, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

If you find yourself at Universal Studios for the holidays be sure to try out the offering at the Three Broomsticks: the special Christmas Dinner. It is a turkey and stuffing dinner, with roasted potatoes, pig in a blanket, braised cabbage, and a mix of roasted veggies and chestnuts, with a spiced citrus cranberry sauce.  I really enjoyed the veggies and the flavor of everything was really nice. I also got the Toffee Pudding, which was delicious and complimented the hot Butterbeer well. But be warned it is very sweet, so the ice cream is definitely needed to calm the flavors. I

Walking around Rothenburg ob der Tauber I kept seeing these snowball-sized round balls. They are called Schneeball (Snowball) and are a local creation. It is pie dough wrapped into a ball, deep fried, and traditionally covered in powdered sugar. As you can see, many different varieties are now sold! Try one if you find yourself in Rothenburg!

By |December 21st, 2016|Categories: Food, Food & Drink, Recipe|Tags: , , , , , , , |0 Comments

In my family we have a tradition of having spiral sliced ham and these cheesy potatoes for Christmas day. Its also one of my favorite pot-luck things to make in a crock pot. You can easily make this either as a casserole or in a crock pot, and the preparation is essentially the same. Here is what you'll need: 32 oz frozen hash browns (thawed if making in a crock pot & you plan on eating quickly) 2 cups sour cream 2 cans cream of chicken soup 1/2 stick butter, melted 1 tablespoon of salt 1 1/2 cup onions, diced

Souvenir Saturday: Bones Rum

By |May 14th, 2016|Categories: Drinks, Food & Drink, Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

When you exit the St. Thomas airport, you are greeted with a sample of Curzan Rum. Then when you get off the ferry in St. John, you get...another sample of Curzan Rum! Not that I'm complaining at all! But on my second trip to St. John, I was happy to find a new store had opened up. It was a "Pour Your Own Rum Bar" featuring a locally made Rum: Bones Rum! Now usually I'm not a fan of dark rum mainly as its not great on its own, but Bones is smooth and tastes good every way you want to

I rarely have all the ingredients, kitchen items, or patience to follow a recipe exactly. This is usually my downfall. I had some Rainbow Carrots, Parsnips, and Chicken that I needed to cook before they went bad and I didn't feel like preparing them exactly how I had before. I decided to experiment. What came out of the slow cooker tasted like heaven. Ingredients: 2 Chicken Breasts 6 Large Rainbow Carrots 3 Parsnips 1 Cup Orange Juice 1/2 Cup Honey 2 tbsp Chicken Stock 5 tbsp Ras el Hanout 3 Cloves Garlic 1 tsp Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil 2 tbsp Butter Salt Pepper

Souvenir Saturday: Mugs from Munich’s Medieval Christmas Market

By |December 12th, 2015|Categories: Drinks, Geek, Souvenirs, Travel|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

There are hundreds of Christmas Markets in Germany during the Christmas season. A of the unique one that I visited was in Munich, and it was a Medieval themed Christmas Market. Found in Wittelsbacherplatz, a short walk from Odeonsplatz it is called the "Adventsspektakel und Mittelaltermarkt" (Advent Celebration and Medieval Christmas Market). Since Christmas Markets in Munich date back to the Middle Ages, it is easy to get in the mood here, with the stalls decorated like a mini-renaissance festival. You'll see people in period dress and they play their roles well. You may also be treated to dancers or musicians for entertainment. The stalls
