In 2014 we were determined to have a perfect view of the Coronado’s Independence Day Parade. The year before we woke up too late, and had to stand at a corner, craning to see.  So my father had gotten up early, and staked out premo places outside of our hotel so we could see the parade in comfort. We had picked up beach chairs the day before, had a cooler of food, blankets, and ample sunscreen. We were prepared!

And it was a perfect spot! We watched as floats and military bands went by. But after about half an hour, we looked at each other. My father said “Hey, your mom and I are going to walk over to the Del (a nearby hotel)” “But you’ll miss the parade?” “We don’t really like parades. You guys can stay.” “What? We hate parades, we don’t want to stay!” And that is when my family realized, no one really likes parades, or even cared if we saw the parade. So we quickly packed up our things, dropped them off in our room, and headed to the Del for a nice, leisurely lunch.
